Horse Care Level 3 Work-Based Diploma


About this Course...

This course is suitable for anyone who wishes to study horse care & management in the work place rather than attending a full time college course. To complete the programme you will need to work voluntary on the centre or be employed part time within the equine industry in a supervisory position to provide the necessary evidence needed for this level of course.
What will I study on the course?
You will study a range of topics that will enable you to work effectively with horses and develop your supervisory skills. The topics studied will include horse diseases & health, transportation, nutrition & diet formulation, health & safety, clipping. You may also decide to undertake and complete ridden units. The programme will be based in one of our approved training centres so you will be learning in an industry-based commercial environment.
What other skills will I acquire?
You will work effectively within a team while increasing your skills within the equine industry and further develop your supervisory skills.
What will I need for the course?
A level 2 qualification or relevant industry experience. You will need to be able to demonstrate knowledge of why you want to work with horses and the enthusiasm to achieve within the industry. It is a requirement of the course that you take a supervisor role at the centre which will mean you will have to cover a range of times on the yard including evening and weekends to for fill the course requirements.
What makes this course special?
This is a practical horse based course which will allow you to experience supervisory work in the equine industry while training. There are no exams, all assessment is either coursework or practically based.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through completion of coursework and practical assessments within the centre.
How long is the course?
Two years.
Will this course lead to a qualification?
Successful completion of this qualification will lead to a Level 3 work based Diploma in Horse Care.
What can I do on completion of this course?

Students who successfully attained Level 3 can enter the industry at supervisory level (yard manager or running your own yard).
